Self-Acceptance

Using Video to Connect with Your Audience

When was the last time that you showed up on video? Are you comfortable with being on video or is it a medium that you tend to avoid? Why might all of us want to create a video? These are some of the questions that I explore with Rachel Tapscott in this episode.

Rachel helps business owners share their story through video. She began her career in media as original news camera operator, then moved into corporate video production, which led her to start her own video production company That Camera Girl. She noticed the same patterns and limiting beliefs present with dozens of different clients around the idea of putting themselves out on video, and she experienced the same fear and internal battle at the idea of appearing on video herself. Rachel’s purpose and the focus of her business has shifted from simply creating videos to helping people with their confidence on camera and their belief in themselves.

Have you ever found yourself hiding something about yourself? Perhaps you take photos showing only one side of your body, or you only share headshots to social media. If so, you will related to today’s guest and her invitation will help you accept and reveal yourself.

Beverley Mapagany currently works as an Account Payable Administrator but she strongly believe that she has come to this world to be a beacon of light to those who are struggling with accepting their bodies and who are not free because they are afraid they are not how the world tells them they should be. How to Build Self Acceptance

To start off season 3, which focuses on self-acceptance, I interviewed Claudia Ira Gan last week. Claudia and I discussed how some people have a skewed sense of self-acceptance, thinking that self-acceptance means stagnation and staying the same. That is not what self acceptance is.

Self-acceptance means knowing your strengths, weaknesses, successes, failures, and seeing yourself as worthy of love, of dignity, despite your imperfections. It means accepting who you really are, not who you wish you should be or want to be. It has no judgement, only truth. This sets it apart from the related idea of self-esteem because self-esteem only focuses on the “esteemed” or the positive aspects of yourself. Self-acceptance looks at all of yourself and likes yourself regardless of the “flaws”, and it is essential before any transformation.

Listen to this episode to learn what is self acceptance and for some ideas of ways that you can increase your practice of self-acceptance.
