Have you ever promised yourself you’d finally get unstuck—write, call, start, finish—only to find that nothing happens? Three weeks slipped by since my last newsletter, and every day I thought, “today’s the day.” Yet, resistance kept me from moving forward. If you’re a single woman over 40, or anyone craving personal growth, you might know this feeling all too well.
Overcome Resistance With Curiosity
This morning, instead of forcing myself or feeling guilty, I got curious about my resistance. What if I approached writing from exactly where I am, focusing on self-friendship and being present in my body? I didn’t have to know what to say—I just had to begin. The words started to flow, and I realized: to reclaim your joy, sometimes you simply need to start.
If you’ve faced shiny thing syndrome, e.g. getting distracted and pulled away from your goals, you’re not alone. How do you bring yourself back when you wander? How do you stay focused on your dream again, instead of drifting further from your desires?
The Simple Progress Formula for Personal Growth
There’s a pattern for making progress and overcoming resistance. Here’s my simple progress formula:
- Decide what you want to do.
- Schedule it.
- When the time comes, sit down and do it.
- Repeat.
It’s simple, but not always easy. What makes it challenging is the resistance that pops up at every step. Maybe it sounds like:
- “I don’t know what I want.”
- “I want to be spontaneous.”
- “I don’t show up for myself and keep my commitments.”
But you don’t have to know everything. You get to decide to take one small step, and that’s how you get unstuck and move toward personal growth.
Dream Again: Your Invitation to Reclaim Joy
Take a moment to reflect: What’s one dream you’ve put on the back burner? What’s holding you back? Is it uncertainty, a desire for spontaneity, or trouble keeping commitments to yourself? Recommit by choosing one small action today, because change begins with one small step.
If you’re ready to get unstuck, embrace self-friendship, and start your journey to personal growth, I’m here for you. Book a call with me or comment below to join me on the journey to reclaim your joy.
